The 89th Illinois Infantry Regiment, also known as the Railroad Regiment, was formed in July and August 1862. It participated in the battles of Stones River, Liberty Gap, Chickamauga, Orchard Knob and Missionary Ridge, Pickett's Mill, the Atlanta Campaign, and Nashville. CREATED/PUBLISHED NOTES Reference: Library of Congress Civil War Maps (2nd ed.), 77.6 Map of parts of Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia showing the operations of the 89th regiment of Illinois volunteers. The regiment was first attached to the 6th Brigade, 2nd Division, Right Wing, Army of the Ohio and later to the 1st Brigade, 3rd Division, 4th Army Corps, Army of the Cumberland. Included are a "muster-in" and "muster-out" roster of officers, a "chronological record of engagements," a table of casualties and the names of officers wounded, and a brief history of the regiment.
